Impact

As service-based small business owners, infusing personality into your brand has become more important than ever. Over the last couple of years, there has been a shift in the market. People are no longer just buying products or services. Instead, they are drawn to brands that feel human, relatable, and personal.

Take a second to think about some of the favorite small businesses and brands that you love. What do you love about them? What keeps you coming back to them? Is it their unique style? Their story? Or maybe it’s how they make you feel like you really know them, even if you’ve never met face-to-face.

Big or small—the brands that stand out today are the ones that focus on building real, meaningful connections with their audience. They make their people feel seen, valued, and part of something bigger. And they do it by showing up confidently, unfiltered, and authentically as themselves.

Infuse Personality Into Your Brand To Book More Clients

Here’s How To Easily Infuse Personality to Your Brand:

Captivating Brand Identity Visuals

Over the last few years, the word ‘branding’ has been tossed around so much it’s lost its meaning. Too often, people reduce branding to just the visuals—logos, colors, and fonts.

👉🏼 But here’s the truth: branding is so much deeper than aesthetics. It’s the emotions your business evokes, the perception you leave behind, and the experience you create at every touchpoint. The visuals are just the tip of the iceberg!

Resonant, memorable branding lives in how you make people feel and the lasting impression you create long after they’ve interacted with you.

Branding is more than just slapping your favorite colors and a selection of trendy fonts together and then calling it a day! It’s so much more than that—it’s a powerful, strategic marketing tool that serves as the very foundation of your business.

Before you begin to infuse personality into your brand visuals, you need to first understand who you are, what you want your brand to stand for, and how to call in your dream clients. To build a brand that truly resonates, you need to go deeper.

Here are some questions to ask ⤵️

  1. What are your brand’s core values, and how do they show up in your business?
  2. What do you want your audience to feel when they interact with your brand?
  3. What stereotypes or expectations in your industry do you want to break?
  4. If your brand were a person, how would you describe their personality?
  5. What story do you want your brand to tell, and how can you share it consistently?
  6. What shared interests or experiences can you use to create an emotional connection with your audience?

Once you have clarity, then you can begin designing your brand identity visuals to communicate your story more effectively!

Here are some tasteful ways to infuse personality into your brand visuals:

  • Unique & unexpected color combinations
  • Mixing font styles
  • Brand textures and/or patterns
  • Incorporating illustrations or icons
  • Imagery style that complements your brand color palette
  • Packaging design to make your brand an experience

Strategic Website Copy

I get it – writing isn’t everyone strong suit and can be daunting; and if you are coming from a corporate background, you most likely are leaning towards a more formal tone.

👉🏼 My first piece of advice? Don’t try to sound like someone you are not.

While resources like ChatGPT or other AI prompts can be extremely helpful when you are writing your website copy, marketing content, or even emails – it can also be detrimental for your business if you aren’t using it properly.

Not only can it confuse your audience with the different tone of voice (ie. the way you actually speak vs the way it is writing for you), it is also a no bueno for SEO if you are simply copying and pasting its input as it is considered “plagiarism”.

To infuse personality in your brand messaging and website copy does not have to be overly complicated or extravagant. It just has to sound like you!

  • If there are any informal colloquialisms that you say everyday, add that in.
  • If you are someone who loves pop culture, tongue-and-cheek humor, or even swearing – that should also come naturally to you as you are writing.
  • If you are a fan of using emoji’s or GIFs, sprinkle those in your emails, thank you pages, and sales pages!

All of those are subtle ways to sprinkle personality into your brand and attract the right types of clients that have similar personalties or working styles!

Level Up Your Website’s About Page

Another effective way to inject personality into your brand is to level up that “About Page” of yours on your website. Contrary to the page title, the About page isn’t necessarily all about YOU but instead, it’s about how your audience connects with your story, values, and personality—and how they see themselves in your journey.

Your ‘About Page’ should strike a balance between sharing your unique story while making it relevant to your visitors. Instead of just listing credentials or career milestones, focus on the why behind what you do. What drives your passion? What do you stand for? How does your story align with the challenges, goals, or values of the people you’re trying to serve?

Here are some ideas to include on your About page to connect with your audience while adding personality ⤵️

  • Get To Know You Pop Quiz (Cosmo style!)
  • Sharing Your Favorite Things
  • Your Core Values & What You Stand For
  • Your Entrepreneurial Journey (In a timeline!)

Share Behind-The-Scenes

If you’ve ever found yourself doom-scrolling on Instagram or TikTok (haven’t we all?), you’ve probably noticed that the videos capturing your attention most are those behind-the-scenes gems—the ones that take you inside the process. Whether it’s kneading jalapeño sourdough bread, sculpting a ceramic vase from a lump of clay, or unpacking the latest Sephora haul, these glimpses into the how are what truly hook people.

Here’s the thing: while the final outcome is undoubtedly exciting and share-worthy, it’s the journey that draws people in and keeps them engaged. Watching the process feels raw, real, and human—it’s where the magic happens. It allows your audience to connect with the effort, the artistry, and even the missteps that go into creating something amazing.

By showing the behind-the-scenes, you’re inviting your audience into your world, making them feel part of something bigger than just the final result.

Here are some behind-the-scenes content idea that can add personality into your brand ⤵️

  • A Day in the life as a *job title*
  • Walkthrough of a presentation you created for a client
  • Sneak peek behind an upcoming launch
  • Turning an idea into reality
  • Office tour of your space
  • Before-and-after transformations

Invest in Brand Photography

When it comes to showing up, people need to know see your face! One of the ways that’s more “low-effort, high-impact” ways is to invest in professional brand photography that goes beyond the headshot you can use for digital marketing.

Unlike portrait photography or commercial photography, brand photography is meant to showcase your heart of your business. As a solopreneur or service-based business, YOU are the face of the brand, and it is essential to have images that your audience can resonate with as it can in turn build trust and credibility.

A photo can speak a thousand words. In this case, it can also create one hell of a memorable impression!

Ditch the traditional headshots and opt for something more YOU! Infuse personality into your brand at your brand photoshoot by curating every detail from the location to the wardrobe to the props.

Here are some questions to ask yourself when planning your brand photoshoot ⤵️

  • What are 5 adjectives to describe my brand personality?
  • What type of vibe do I want my brand photos to embody?
  • What type of space do I feel most comfortable in or frequent often?
  • What clothes feels like ME?
  • What are things that I use everyday and/or can’t live without in my business?

Here are some location ideas outside of a traditional studio:

  • Greenhouse or flowers shop
  • Library or bookstore
  • Your favorite coffee shop or bakery
  • Your own kitchen
  • Home office
  • A trendy coworking space
  • Yoga or fitness studio
  • Airbnb or rental studio that exudes your dream vibe
  • Local restaurant, wine bar, or hotel lobby
  • Your favorite hiking trail or secluded beach
  • A farmers’ market

Show up on Instagram Stories

If you are someone who has commitment issues with social media, especially posting on your feed, Instagram stories are a fantastic way to infuse personality into your brand! Why? Because these stories disappear in 24 hours!

Instagram Stories don’t need to be all business, all the time—in fact, they shouldn’t be. They’re the perfect space to let your audience see the person behind the brand. By sharing snippets of your thoughts, interests, routines, and even personal milestones, you’re inviting your audience into your world in a way that’s authentic and relatable.

After all, people want to know the people behind the brand outside of what we do. All of us are more than just our job titles. In fact, some of my posts that had the most views and engagement had nothing to do with my business or what I can do for my clients, but instead, what I’ve been up to outside of work!

For example, if you are currently planning your wedding and are seeking advice from previous brides, you could poll your audience to see what they think. 99% chance you will connect with someone who is a business owner and a past/current bride!

Sharing these personal glimpses doesn’t just infuse personality into your brand—it’s also a creative way to reach your audience without coming across as ‘salesy.’ It’s a subtle yet effective reminder that you’re more than what you do; you’re a person with stories, experiences, and quirks that make your brand exclusively yours.

The more ways you show up for your brand and audience, the more they can get to know you.

After all, wouldn’t you want to work with someone you click with—someone who shares your values, interests, or vibe? 👀 Cause when there’s that natural alignment, everything feels more effortless, like collaborating with a friend who just gets you.

If you’re ready to take your brand to the next level with a designer who believes in creating a brand experience that feels uniquely you, let’s hop on a virtual call and connect! Together, we’ll craft a brand and website that not only looks amazing but also feels true to you—attracting like-minded clients and making your work feel even more meaningful and fulfilling.
